Mossy Oak Hunting Apps

OK...So by now most of us have a smartphone, and most of us carry it in the woods with us when we hunt.  Instead of just taking it in so that we can scare off our prey when we forget to turn the sound off lets use it for something good.  Mossy Oak has teamed up with Scoutlook to create a couple of really cool apps that can be used while hunting, scouting, and planning your hunt.  The weather app can be used to plan where to set up, how to use the temperature, humidity, and wind to your advantage, and they also have the DeerLog app that can be used to better track and manage your deer population for scouting and management.  Check these out and maybe use your time in the woods for something more productive than just Facebook.

Face it, you have either been there or you are getting ready to be if you do a lot of fishing.  Load everything up, head out to the lake/stream/river/ocean, get there and either during the unload or walk to the water you catch your rod and break off the tip.  If you find yourself in the least bit prepaired you can save yourself the embaressing ride back home without any fishing at all.

What you need:
1. Rod Tips: Can be simple black, glow in the dark, or suited to your specific rod.

2. Glue Stick:  These come from most any type of general store, get the kind that go into a small glue gun, you only need one at a time in your tackle box but you will have extras to leave at home.

3. A working lighter:  Don't assume you will have one in your pocket or car.  If your tip breaks, you won't have it.

What to do:
When you break the tip of your rod, simply get out your materials, use the lighter to melt some of the glue from the stick onto the broken end of your rod and then slide the new rod tip on.  Give it 5 minutes to set and you are ready to fish!

I know some people are old school and are not going to like this first hunting tip, but a good set of walkie-talkies is an amazing resource for people who are hunting with others.  I personally have this set of Midland two-way radios.  These things work great for hunting.  They are camo so they don't stick out and you can change the call button to an animal call so it doesn't stand out.  My favorite is the crow, you can't tell the difference between it and crows flying over.  Even better they come with an earpiece that makes it where you have even less noise and movement with communication with your hunting partner/s.  You can connect as many radios as you would like as long as they are on the same channel and everyone can communicate information as it is happening.
